JULY

And the day of the 5th time we hosted the fans of rock in our picturesque amphitheatre finally came.

We went the extra mile to make the 5th Rock Legends Festival special in every aspect. However, it was obviously the performers who had the greatest influence on the uniqueness of the edition. The negotiations with many bands which had a lasting influence on the development of rock music went on for months. We will not deny the fact that we wanted the megastar Deep Purple. Thanks to our persistence and determination, we were able to put Dolina Charlotty on the European Deep Purple concert tour. In between the concerts in Germany and France, the band gave a concert in Strzelinko in Poland.

And so on 24 July 2011 the great Deep Purple came to Dolina Charlotty!!! The amphitheatre was full to the brim. We would like to thank all the people for coming. Thanks to you, the inaugural 5th Rock Legends Festival concert was special!!! It was the audience who created this unique atmosphere and energized the stars!

The musicians appeared on stage at 10pm and already with the first tunes of Highway Star, they roused the audience. This atmosphere was maintained throughout the evening. The singer, Ian Gillan, immediately had the audience' attention and they accompanied him in all the hits of Deep Purple! The greatest enthusiasm and emotions came when the band sang their immortal hit Smoke On The Water during which the audience literally went crazy. A nearly 5 thousand strong choir was heard in the picturesque amphitheatre. It was a really unique and unforgettable experience. The audience also appreciated the masterly skills of the musicians, especially Don Aurey, the keyboard player, who included Polish motives in his solos. We could listen to fragments of Mazurek Dąbrowskiego or the polonaise by Fryderyk Chopin. Whereas the guitarist Steve Morse, presented some classical rock motives. The musicians, though not so young anymore, gave a great show and impressed the audience with their excellent quality music, fitness, engagement and POWER on stage.

We shouldn’t leave out the performance of the Silesian band, Kruk, who supported the star of the evening. The musicians emphasised what an honour it was for them to play before such a great legend whose music is an inspiration for them. They managed to put the audience in a fantastic rock mood.

The concert on 24 July 2011 was surely the most important and great event in the history of Rock Legends festival!!! Once again we showed how music unites the generations. We can quite safely use the following words: MEGACONCERT, MEGAFUN, MEGAGREAT AUDIENCE!!! We would like to thank all of you for taking part in the inaugural 5th edition of the Rock Legends Festival!!!

AUGUST

After the unforgettable performance of Deep Purple nothing was as before and the August part of the 5th Rock Legends Festival stands to show. It were three days of hard rock: Saxon, UFO, Colosseum, Alvin Lee, Vanilla Fudge, Jack Bruce from Cream. This year the festival featured a new part which included Polish bands: TSA, Boogie Chilli, Dżem. On 12,13 and 14 August the amphitheatre was filled with fans of rock legends.

The first day featured classic hard rock and heavy metal. At 10pm the audience warmly greeted the Polish legend, TSA, who sang famous songs such as Trzy zapałki and prepared the audience for Saxon, the next performer. The show was full of energy - red lights, hard sound, well-known classical songs: Motorcycle Man, Wheels of Steel or Crusader were intertwined with pieces from their new album, Call To Arms. The singer Biff Byford enraptured the audience as he descended the stage and encouraging them to accompany him. The last performer of the day was UFO. We could hear hits of the 1970s like Doctor Doctor, Shoot Shoot, Rock Bottom and also newer pieces from the album The Visitors. For many it was the best concert of the evening.

The second day was no less exciting, though the music was a tad softer, rock-blues. The evening began with the Poznań-based Boogie Chilli. They specialise in cover songs of boogie and blues rock. The next band which appeared in the amphitheatre was Colosseum which surprised everybody with their amaizng performance. The concert, and particularly the improvisation of Valentyne Suite intertwined with solos by the instrumentalists was greeted with cries of joy and standing ovation. They weren’t leaving without the encore. It can safely be said that thanks to the great performance, Colosseum deserved to be called the star of the evening. Alvin Lee the guitar master from Ten Years After reminded the audience about the sound of rockabilly and swing.

At the beginning of the third evening the whole amphitheatre resounded with the well-known hits of Dżem. The hard drumming and the intense sound of the organs announced the appearance of Vanilla Fudge on the stage. We mainly heard songs from their first and last album dedicated to the music of Led Zeppelin. The festival finished with the performance of the bass player Jack Bruce accompanied by The Big Blues Band. Despite its name, the band mostly showed jazz and fusion with some songs from the repertoire of Cream: White room, Spoonful or Sunshine of Your Love. The concert made a great impression not only thanks to the high artistic value of the performances but also the great atmosphere created by the close contact between the musicians and the audience. It turned out that we not only unite generations and music tastes but also the musicians with their fans.
