The 8th edition of the Rock Legend Festival, which took place in 2014 was really special because of the great performance of the legendary king of the music - Bob Dylan, eccentric rocker Ian Anderson and Fish`a - the famous Scottish artist. As every year, Festiwwal provided his audience and fans an unforgettable experience, a huge dose of positive energy and great music listening experience.
Fish, or Derek William Dick, 56 year old Scottish singer, song writer and composer, also film and TV actor went down in history as the frontman of Marillion, a group popular in the second part of the 1980s (the band performed in Dolina Charlotty with a different lead singer, Steve Hogarth, in 2010). Fish recorded many great studio albums with Marillion: Script for a Jester’s Tear (1983), Fugazi (1984), Misplaced Childhood (1985) and Clutching at Straws (1987) and a concert album towards the end of the activity The Thieving Magpie (La Gazza Ladra, 1988). After the European concert tour with Marillion in 1987 (during which he performed in Poland for the first time), Fish began his solo career with many successful concerts and thematic albums (Internal Exile,1991; Songs from the Mirror, 1993; Fellini Days, 2001). Last year Fish recorded A Feast of Consequences, an album highly appreciated by both fans and the critique. But at the festival in Dolina Charlotty, he will most probably sing all his greatest hits written many years ago with Marillion, such as Kayleigh, Lavender, Slainte Mhath, Garden Party, Fugazi and Incommunicado which are always awaited at the Polish concerts.
The second singer of the evening was Ian Anderson, also from Scotland. He is a singer, a multiinstrumentalist (the flue, guitar, harmonica, drums), song writer, composer of many great songs and rock masterpieces, but mostly the frontman of Jethro Tull since 1967. Although they started with white blues and English and Scottish folk music (with many elements in their music), they are usually classified as a progressive rock band. In the beginning of the 1970s the band recorded a couple concept albums which nowadays are included in classical rock music (Aqualung; 1971; Thick as a Brick, 1972; A Passion Play, 1973). Later albums were classified very differently. For one of them (Crest of a Knave) Jethro Tull even received an MTV award in the category for the best heavy metal band in 1987, which was cause for great surprise to the fans as well as to the musicians themselves. Nevertheless, they had more than 20 albums and many original hits (A Song for Jefferey, A New Day Yesterday, Bouree, Living in the Past, Teacher, Crosseyed Mary, Songs for the Wood, Minstrel in the Gallery or Too Old to Rock&Roll; Too Young to Die!) but also songs from Ian Anderson’s solo albums such as the most memorable neoclasssicist suite Divinities: Twelve Dances of God (1995) or the charming: The Secret Language of Birds (2000) and Rupi’s Dance (2003) make Anderson one of the greatest artists and rock legends, thus his concert on the 4th of July 2014 at the festival in Dolina Charlotty.

Even more flattering can be written about another star of this year 8th Rock Legends Festival; a composer, musician, singer, but mostly a song writer and a poet, Grammy, Academy and Pulitzer award winner, nominated several times for the Noble prize in literature (a poetic novel „Tarantula” and the autobiographical „Chronicles”), an actor, film director, author of golden records and songs which went down in the history of rock. Bob Dylan became 73 years old in May. He is still recording (last album Tempest in 2012) and giving concerts around the world. He has got millions of fans everywhere, also among other artists who often sing his songs. His songs are particularly valuable especially owing the ambiguous texts so meticulously worked on by Dylan who often revises them and polishes until the last detail but also the music. It is simple. It draws on blues, folk, jazz, street ballad, gospel, rhythm&blues and rock&roll from the 1950s. Al Kooper says Dylan only sketches the music. This is why it is so easy to perform in different styles and ways as there are already thousands of covers. However, the greatest emotions are when Dylan performs live. During his concerts the songs can sometimes be recognised only after some time as Dylan often makes in promptu changes to them as he sings. He is always accompanied by brilliant artists who themselves have to pay attention to what he will offer to sing. He seldom prepares a list of songs to be played at the concert. In his repertoire he has got over 500 songs, many of which have only been published unofficially on the so called bootlegs. His record company did not always know about the many hits hidden in archives, once rejected, but universal and worth showing to the entire world. This is why in 1991-2013 10 sets of studio and concert songs from Dylan’s many performances around the world and the great „Biograph” from 1985 were published in the „Bootleg Series”. The songs that Dylan will sing at the Festival on the 5th of July 2014 will only be known to those who come to the concert. Dylan will surely surprise them.
